Virginia Fletcher, a Quality Continuous Improvements Intern here at Acutec, knows that real-life experience is valuable in obtaining a job post-graduation. After becoming valedictorian in high school, she began attending Robert Morris University where she currently studies industrial engineering. Virginia is interested in quality, process, and project engineering and after graduation, hopes to obtain a job in northwest Pennsylvania. The skills that she is learning here at Acutec help prepare her for a competitive job market:
“This experience gives me related exposure and interaction with these engineering areas, as well as knowledge that will be beneficial to have.”
During her time here, Virginia has been able to work on a variety of projects and tasks that have journeyed beyond what she has learned within the classroom. Despite only starting in May, she assisted with an international engineering conference, where she gave tours, interacted with the participants, and answered their questions. In talking about her favorite project, Virginia was able to create a program through Excel VBA, CMM Fixture Inventory, which will directly help the employees and processes at Acutec. Virginia recalls the excitement that she had when she hit the first button of the program that was viable, stating that sometimes the little things make her experience more meaningful and worthwhile.
Outside of Acutec, Virginia has a variety of interests and activities that in which she partakes. She enjoys gardening, reading, baking, kayaking, and spending time with family. On top of that, she is a certified functional fitness instructor where she teaches and motivates others to live an active and healthy life. For her favorite aircraft, the Boeing XPBB Sea Ranger comes to mind first. In her advice, she encourages future interns make the most of their experience at Acutec:
“You will get out of it what you put into it. I come in everyday with a positive attitude ready to learn and to be challenged so that I can gain as much knowledge and experience from this opportunity possible.”
