Jacob Schmid, a Project and Supply Chain Management major at Penn State University the Behrend Campus, understands the importance of gaining experience within the professional world. Through the ASCEND program at Acutec, Jacob has built valuable skills that will help him achieve his goals. Working in the Purchasing Department, Jacob’s tasks include assisting with MRO procurement making POs, working within Excel and SQL, and communicating with suppliers and coworkers.
“This experience helps me achieve my career goals through the meaningful work that’s been assigned to me,” he said.
Jacob started at Acutec last summer, and since then he has built relationships that have helped him learn more about both the aerospace industry and the field he is studying. Two mentors, Ron Renner and Bruce McCrillis, have expanded and solidified concepts learned in the classroom, supplementing his college education with real life application. Jacob states the projects he’s helped to complete and the collaboration between himself and his coworkers have been the most rewarding part of the experience.
Outside of work, Jacob enjoys watching movies and playing video games. As for his favorite aircraft, Jacob stated that the A319NEO topped his list. If Jacob were to give advice to future interns, he states, “Just learn from the experience and gain what knowledge you can while you’re here.”
Thanks for all your hard work, Jacob!
